I am a huge fan of this author's Enemy series so I was beyond excited to see that he had written a new book that falls within the psychological thriller umbrella, my favourite genre. I was also a bit scared for the same reasons. Would it meet my high expectations both for the author himself and the genre in which he has chosen to write? Well, I think the five fat stars I have given the book speak to answer to that question very nicely.Ben's first wife and mother of his son was murdered 7 years ago. That murder is still unsolved. Ben has since remarried and has had a second child with his new wife. The shadow of what happened to Alice is still haunting Ben and it is evident that cracks are beginning to form in his new relationship. It soon comes to light that Ben has made some bad decisions in his life, forged some dodgy relationships and the repercussions of these elements are about to jump up and bite him, savagely. Will the return of his sister Dani, now a detective with the Police help or hinder. Is she back to save or condemn...?
As I was reading this book, some Pink Floyd lyrics kept popping into my head. "A momentary lapse of reason that binds a life for life" and I would have to say that these words summed up this book for me throughout its majority. As we follow the action in the book, there are chapters included that follow a character talking to some kind of therapist. We see something played out and then the same action is discussed between the two. Analysed if you like. I really thought that this was a very effective way of getting into the character's head perspective wise especially. It's not often that you are witness to what motivates and drives a character to make certain decisions as the action plays out but I really though that this added to the overall psychological element of the book here.
I also loved the way that the author drew me as a reader into making judgements about certain characters and then, at the end of the day, pulling out the rug on these assumptions and leaving me floundering on the floor totally gobsmacked. Ok, yes I am used to this with these books but the way that Mr Sinclair managed to manipulate me as well as the characters has to be applauded.
It's very graphic in nature by the way, there are a lot of ugly fight scenes, some of which made even me, a hardened reader of such things, squirm a bit.
I want to say so much more about this book, about Ben, his relationships with both wives, O'Brady, and indeed his sister but however I try and word it, it always reads a bit spoilery and I would be devastated if my review ruined the book for someone so I am reluctant to say much more apart from at the end of the day, when all was known, any nagging questions and uncertainties I had during the book were explained satisfactorily.
Plotting was excellent throughout and also extremely clever. With the power of hindsight, nothing was completely bombshell in nature, all the clues were there leading up to the ending, just the author's clever misdirection and manipulation prevented me seeing through the mist he cleverly spread. It also contained quite a few things that got me thinking. Perceptions and the like. Nature and nurture, specifically between Ben and his sister. Talking of whom, I believe that we will see more from Dani in future books. I for one can't wait for that.
As a footnote I want to add that this was a book that I alternated between reading and listening to via Audible. I found the switch between the two media to be seamless and would therefore recommend either as a way of devouring this story.
All in all another winner from Mr Sinclair. Hope he doesn't make me wait too long for his next book.

Dark Fragments 9780995621213 Books Reviews
Not perfection, in fact there were a couple of glaring inconsistencies in the dialog. Yet, I had a hard time putting it down, which is a testimonial to the author's writing skills. Interesting plot and good structure also contributed to this book being a page turner.
I enjoyed reading Dark Fragments very much and it definitely left me with a feeling of how unbelievable sick someone's mind can become. I realize this is a work of fiction but I do know this sort of thing or something in close proximity could happen in real life. I will definitely recommend Mr. Sinclair's books to my family and friends. I have read many of his books and enjoyed them all !
This book did not end with the ending i had predicted. It is very different than the carl logan series. I enjoyed it and wished there was more to read. The story line was easy to follow and the characters were easy to fall for or hate. Lots of twists and turns in the story that keep you guessing and engaged.
I am still trying to decide if I enjoyed reading this book. I am a huge fan of Rob Sinclair's previous books, but his departure into psychological suspense of which I am not a fan made the reading iffy at best. The pace was choppy and I kept stopping and more than once debated whether or not to quit reading altogether. It did come together at the end. but that did not make the previous confusing read any more satisfying. Difficult for me to recommend.
So glad I read this book. It is an unexpectedly well-written account of how easy it is for a "normal" life to plunge into chaos. The author's approach is to tell a first-person narrative that utilises two different perspectives interchangingly.... This style of narration is superb as it keeps the reader fully engaged in a guessing game while the story progresses. The book is action-packed, full of suspense and ends with a twist that the reader only sees towards the very end! I can see a film being made easily from this book! Great read! Highly recommended!
This book kept me guessing. The Ben reveals his feelings for his wife, sister, kids and others and lets the reader know his
emotions and thoughts about his life's events as he perceives them..
I didn't discover the ending and was surprised as it was revealed. Then Ben's story all fit together.
Excellent and thrilling story! Thanks for writing this exceptional book!
Mr. Sinclair is one of my favorite writers with his Carl Logan/ James Ryker series. I didn’t know about this one until recently, but WOW! Dark Fragments is probably the best psycho-drama I have ever read. This book, told in the first person, slowly but surely drags the reader into a pit of mystery and murder. The reader will develop a suspicion early on, and with each ensuing onslaught, it becomes clear what is going on. Mr. Sinclair is a talented web-weaver and you fall into the trap before you know it. Read THIS ONE!
